Wyverns

Although they may look alike, Wyverns and Dragons are completely different. The name "wyvern" comes from the Anglo-Saxon word "wivere", meaning serpent or worm.

Description: A wyvern is sometimes described as an adolescent dragon, due to its small size. The wyvern stands on two legs, and its wings, unlike a dragon's, are true wings derived from the forelimbs. Wyverns can use their wings to clasp each other when they are folded. Eagle-like talons sprout from its claws and feet, and a beak-like jaw easily carries food. A deadly barbed stinger protrudes from its tail, acting as a weapon.

Habitat: Wyverns often live in caverns or protected lairs in the forest. As treasure hoarders, Wyverns' lairs are distinguished by piles of bones or valuables.

Mood and Behavior:  Wyverns are far less timid than dragons are. They are attracted to shiny objects and baubles, resulting in the numerous piles of treasure stashed in their home. Wyverns are also extremely aggressive, and they charge at anything that looks like a tasty snack. Females should never be confronted when they are guarding their young.
